Julia Roberts will be the next recipient of the Honorary César. A prestigious award that the “Pretty Woman” star earned not only through his acting talent.
Big honor for Julia Roberts. As the organizers of the upcoming 50th César Awards ceremony announced on the event's official website, the American actress will be awarded the César d'Honneur, the honorary César, for her life's work on February 28th next year.
“She gained international recognition in 1990 with the role of Vivian Ward in 'Pretty Woman'. This cult film directed by Garry Marshall made her rise to the rank of global superstar. She achieved success alongside Richard Gere with her radiant smile and “to conquer people's hearts with her performance,” is one of the reasons given for Robert's planned award. The 56-year-old also achieved this in “numerous other works,” from comedies to dramas such as “Erin Brockovich,” for which she received an Oscar.
Much more than just a movie star
“Julia Roberts is not only a movie star, but also a cultural icon whose influence extends far beyond her portrayals,” the press release states. Because away from the screen, the Hollywood star is committed to charitable causes. Roberts acts as a Unicef ambassador and supports numerous humanitarian efforts worldwide. As an environmental activist, she has lent her voice to documentaries about protecting the planet and is actively committed to women's rights, those responsible for the César award praise.
With her award, Roberts finds herself in illustrious company. In recent years, the honorary César has been awarded to a number of famous colleagues. In 2022, Oscar winner Cate Blanchett received the César d'Honneur, followed the following year by director David Fincher (“Seven”). This year there were two winners: French actress Agnès Jaoui and “Oppenheimer” director Christopher Nolan were both happy about this special honor.
