Sebastian Hotz, alias “El Hotzo,” is ending his podcast “Hotz & Houmsi.” The last three years have been “a lot,” says the satirist. Most recently, he came under fire for a joke about the Trump assassination attempt.
He will not be returning after the summer break. Comedian Sebastian Hotz, who is known for satirical content under his stage name “El Hotzo”, is ending his podcast “Hotz & Houmsi”. In a very short episode titled “Bye” published at the weekend, he announced that he had noticed in recent months “that the last three years have been quite a lot for me”. It was therefore with a heavy heart that he made the decision to end the podcast project after two years.
“I'm very, very sorry. I hope you're not mad at me,” Hotz said to his fans. In the weekly podcast, he spoke to journalist Salwa Houmsi about everything under the sun.
The satirist has almost 700,000 followers on X and 1.4 million users on Instagram. In addition to his podcast, Hotz temporarily worked as a freelance author for the show “ZDF Magazin Royal” hosted by Jan Böhmermann. His debut novel was published last year.
Joke about Trump assassination attempt
Hotz hit the headlines in July after the assassination attempt on US presidential candidate Donald Trump. In a post on X that was deleted shortly afterwards, he wrote what the “last bus” and Trump had in common. His answer: “Unfortunately, I just missed it.” In another post, he announced: “I think it's absolutely fantastic when fascists die.” This post was also deleted.
Hotz then posted this justification: “Absolutely nobody is forcing you to feel sorry for fascists, you can just stop without the slightest consequence.” The ARD broadcaster Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (rbb) then ended its collaboration with him on the youth broadcaster Fritz. Shortly afterwards, ARD Kultur also canceled a literary event with “El Hotzo.”
In the current podcast episode, the comedian did not address the criticism from July. There was no reference to the end of the podcast.
