The Lamborghini Urus enters the second round with power. With a hybridized powertrain to generate more power with reduced CO2 emissions. ntv.de has already taken a seat in the Italian super SUV.

The fact that the Urus is an economically important vehicle for Lamborghini can also be seen in the way the manufacturer presents its Swiss army knife to the sports car world: multiple times. First at the company headquarters in Sant Agata on a still secret mission, then officially at the Auto China in Beijing and now even in Modena, the holy Ferrari province. Pretty provocative, right?

So there is the finished vehicle, although the main changes are hidden under the sheet metal. But slowly, the Italians have already fine-tuned the look a bit in order to at least show the experienced viewer that the modified model suits them. And that can be seen pretty well, at least from the front, because the headlights (matrix LED) of the revised Urus are significantly smoother. A striking border in the form of LED daytime running lights at least makes the front recognizable. The creatives have also reworked the rear, particularly so that the Urus now generates more downforce than before, which should have an impact on driving stability.

And inside? There are lots of buttons here and the smell of fine leather. And not an overwhelming amount, but enough display in a slightly different configuration – but basically as usual. The designers hardly intervened in the design either. Anyone who takes a look at the instrument cluster can still see the genes of the Volkswagen Group.

The V8 remains as a classic element

Of course, these can also be found under the hood, for example in the form of the company's eight-cylinder engine with the marking EA825. This is a direct-injection four-liter with double turbocharging. The engine's performance is slightly reduced and produces 620 hp (instead of up to 666 in the Urus Performante) on the test bench, but that's not all. The SE adds 192 electric horses to achieve a total of 800 hp and 950 Newton meters in the drive train.

This means that the Lamborghini Urus is more powerful than ever, but it does not become the car quartet king because of the extremely powerful BEV SUV à la the Lotus Eletre top model or Tesla Model X Plaid with 905 or 1020 hp. But even if no finished production example of the Urus has been driven yet, the drivetrain suggests that the Italian is quite sporty and that it's not just the pure numbers that matter.

There is an electric torque vectoring unit with an electro-hydraulic multi-plate clutch to distribute the power variably between the two axles – this is exciting with the electric unit because it simply reacts faster than the combustion engine. And then there is the V8 sound. In addition, an electronically controlled limited-slip differential on the rear axle should ensure that the all-wheel drive oversteers with emphasis on the rear. There is also variable air suspension in combination with active stabilizers to compensate for pitching and rolling movements.

There is now a battery (almost 26 kWh) hidden in the Lamborghini Urus that can be charged externally. There is now a battery (almost 26 kWh) hidden in the Lamborghini Urus that can be charged externally.

Dynamics in all disciplines are guaranteed – we can look forward to it. However, it is also good form that you can drive the Urus for around 60 kilometers on all fours purely electrically (up to 130 km/h), powered by the electric motor in the transmission and fed by a battery of almost 26 kWh. But is this a real scenario? I have to smile a little at the thought. But at least the Urus clientele should be able to afford a photovoltaic system (free green electricity and all that).

If you use both units together, it should go from 0 to 200 km/h within 11.2 seconds. The top speed is 312 things. Incidentally, Lamborghini is advertising a reduction in the power-to-weight ratio from 3.3 to 3.13 kilograms per horsepower. Is this supposed to be serious? You can see how much weight a double drive train brings with it. Two and a half tons of empty weight are simply set.

What other reasons speak for buying the Lamborghini? In any case, the Italians make their product tasty in a fairly graphic way. This is even clear in the presentation room. There are large color charts hanging all over the walls, not just with the names of the paint shades. The palette is so extensive that the creatives first roughly divide it into different color spectrums (i.e. the basic color spaces yellow, blue, brown, green and red) and within this the customer can choose between the different tones. A total of around 100 preconfigured paint colors are already available. So the Urus pleasure can be quite colorful if desired, but also quite expensive.

The manufacturer has not yet commented on the prices, but it is obvious that they will be well above 200,000 euros. Delivery will take place later this year. The pure combustion engines will then be eliminated.
