Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe were married for nine years, but their divorce in 2006 plunged him into the “worst time of his life.” Even today, the actor still seems to be mourning his ex, as a post addressed to her shows.
Ryan Phillippe shared a photo of himself and his ex-wife Reese Witherspoon on his Instagram stories. “We were hot and drenched in late 90's angst @reesewitherspoon (a way cooler time than today),” the actor captioned the photo.
In the photo, the former couple have their arms around each other. Witherspoon is wearing a black and white striped halter neck dress with a bow on the collar and a chin-length bob. Phillippe has a mohawk and three-day beard in the snapshot. He also presents a sleeveless, blue and white striped shirt with a collar, black pants and dark sunglasses.
Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon are said to have met at her 21st birthday party in 1997 and shortly afterwards played the leading roles in “Cruel Intentions” alongside Selma Blair. In 1999, the two stars married six months after their engagement.
Witherspoon divorced two more times
Phillippe and Witherspoon were married for nine years and had two children, daughter Ava and son Deacon. The actors finally separated in October 2006, but continued to care for their children together. Phillippe once revealed in an interview with “W Magazine” that the divorce was “the darkest, saddest place I've ever been.” He didn't get out of bed for about “four or five months,” the star said. “It was the worst time of my life.”
Witherspoon married Jim Toth in 2011 after a two-year relationship with Jake Gyllenhaal and had a son, Tennessee, with him. In March 2023, she and Toth announced their separation. Phillippe has not remarried yet, but had a daughter, Kai, with his ex-girlfriend Alexis Knapp.
