Danielle Fishel is best known for her role in the 90s sitcom “Life and Me”. And as the ex-girlfriend of NSYNC singer Lance Bass before he came out as gay. Now the actress is unfortunately making sad headlines. At just 43 years old, she is suffering from breast cancer.

US series star Danielle Fishel has made it public that she has breast cancer. The 43-year-old revealed that she received the horrific diagnosis during a routine examination in the latest episode of her podcast “Pod Meets World”.

“I was recently diagnosed with DCIS, which is a form of breast cancer,” reveals the mother of two young sons. Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) is a cell proliferation that is a precursor to breast cancer.

“It's very, very, very early. It's technically stage zero,” Fishel adds, offering encouragement: “I'm going to be OK. I'm going to have surgery to remove it. I'm going to have follow-up treatment. (…) I'm going to be OK.” So far, her tumor has not spread to surrounding breast tissue.

Fishel urges precaution

“The only reason this cancer was discovered when it was still stage zero is because the day I got the text message that my regular mammogram was coming up, I made the appointment right away,” the actress continues. She also wants to use her story to remind people to keep these check-ups. “We can't just say: 'I don't have time for that, I already had a mammogram last year,'” Fishel emphasizes the importance of these check-ups.

Fishel, who was born in the US state of Arizona, became known in the 1990s through various TV productions. Among other things, she appeared in two episodes of the series “Full House”. Her most important engagement, however, was in the sitcom “Boy Meets World”, in which she played the role of Topanga Lawrence for seven years from 1993.

At the turn of the millennium, Fishel was in a relationship with then NSYNC singer Lance Bass, who came out as gay in 2006. Two years ago, the two announced plans to make a film about their former relationship. Today, Fishel is married for the second time to author Jensen Karp. The couple has two sons, born in 2019 and 2021 respectively.
