The new edition of the Suzuki Swift, which will be launched on the market in a few months, could be mistaken for a facelift from the outside. But a lot has happened technically with the small car.

Suzuki will bring a new edition of the classic small car Swift onto the market in Germany in April 2024. The now seventh generation offers a high recognition value at first glance, but a closer look reveals many innovations compared to its predecessor.

The rear door handles of the new Swift have moved from the C-pillar back under the door shoulder. The rear door handles of the new Swift have moved from the C-pillar back under the door shoulder.

The radiator grille, which will now be made in high-gloss black and made in one piece, will forego the Suzuki S, which has moved to the painted area between the radiator grille and the bonnet. The upcoming Swift also offers modified headlights with a new daytime running light signature. Instead of hiding in the C-pillars as before, the rear door handles are clearly visible on the door panel. The rear has new taillights. In addition, radar and camera sensors will be integrated on the back in the future.

At 3.86 meters, the new Swift is about as long as its predecessor. At 3.86 meters, the new Swift is about as long as its predecessor.

Cameras can also be found in the front area and inside, which allows for a more extensive arsenal of assistance systems. The upcoming Swift offers collision avoidance, cruise control, traffic sign recognition, cross traffic warning as well as blind spot and lane keeping assistant. The interior camera monitors the driver. If he shows signs of tiredness, the on-board system warns him to take a break.

Inside, the Swift, which is still 3.86 meters short, offers a two-tone dashboard with satin surfaces and a driver-centered cockpit. There is a 9-inch touchscreen in the center of the dashboard, which can also be used to display smartphone content via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. In conjunction with the Suzuki Connect app, the user can view the current location of the vehicle and be informed via geofencing if the vehicle leaves certain areas. The app also provides information about recalls or inspection intervals.

The normal 265 liter trunk can be expanded to a maximum of 980 liters.

Fuel-saving drive thanks to mild hybrid technology

The new drive system for the Swift is a 61 kW/84 hp 1.2-liter petrol engine, which, thanks to mild hybrid technology, offers an extra boost during propulsion and saves fuel. The three-cylinder engine, which can be combined with all-wheel drive and a CVT automatic, produces 61 kW/84 hp. The one-ton truck is fastest in the front-wheel drive version with CVT, which reaches up to 170 km/h. Suzuki reports the lowest fuel consumption at 4.6 liters for the front-wheel drive variant with manual transmission.

Suzuki Germany has not yet announced prices for the new Swift. Given the better equipment with sensors and new assistance systems, the base price is likely to rise from the current 17,600 to probably around 19,000 euros.
