In recent years, many new electric motorcycles have been announced but never realized. Can-Am, on the other hand, is now serious about two models. In a few months, they will also be available in Germany – now the Canadian motorcycle brand is announcing details about them.
The motorcycle brand Can-Am, which belongs to the Canadian group Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP), has revealed details about its Pulse and Origin e-motorcycles, which will also be available in Germany in early 2025. In terms of drive technology, both models use the same E-Power engine from Rotax, which is available in power levels of 11 kW/15 hp or 35 kW/48 hp. The driver can choose between four driving modes: Normal, Sport, Eco and Rain. As a special feature, the e-motorcycles have liquid cooling, which keeps the charger, inverter, motor and battery at a comfortable temperature.
The battery is quite compact at 8.9 kWh. The naked bike Pulse is said to have a range of 160 kilometers in city traffic. The enduro counterpart can travel 145 kilometers on one battery charge. Can-Am does not provide any information on the presumably modest range in cross-country use. Accordingly, the company sees its e-motorcycles as being particularly suitable for use in the city. The battery should be able to be charged from 20 to 80 percent in 50 minutes. Practical: The Can-Am bikes have a reverse gear for maneuvering.
Both single-track electric vehicles are equipped with a 10.25-inch touchscreen as a cockpit display. Apple CarPlay is integrated here, which enables the use of the corresponding navigation software, among other things. There is also the “BRP Go!” app, which can be used to pair the bike with the user's smartphone.
Battery under tank-like cover
At first glance, you might mistake the angularly designed e-bikes for conventionally powered motorcycles, because there is a tank-like panel between the seat and the cockpit. However, the battery and power electronics are housed underneath. Between this block and the rear wheel is the motor, which forms a unit with the single-arm rear swing arm. Other striking details are the rectangular headlight units with a special LED light signature and neon yellow color accents.
The motorcycles can already be configured on the German Can-Am website. The Pulse is available at prices starting at 16,900 euros, while the Enduro Origin costs 600 euros more.
