Courtney Love is a singer in the rock band Hole. And even though women in the male-dominated music business are supposed to stick together, she has little praise for some of her colleagues. The 59-year-old is annoyed by the “one-size-fits-all” that Swift, Beyoncé and Madonna offer.

Courtney Love has her own opinion on some famous colleagues – and it's not necessarily positive. While Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Madonna and Lana Del Rey have millions of fans worldwide and are successful, the 59-year-old singer of the band Hole and widow of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain has little to gain from her musical colleagues.

“Taylor is not important,” she said in an interview with The Standard. “She may be a safe place for girls and she's probably the Madonna of today, but as an artist she's not interesting.”

Speaking of Madonna: She can't do anything with the actual “Queen of Pop” either, but that seems to be mutual: “I don't like her and she doesn't like me.”

“Just don't like their music”

Beyoncé's new country album also doesn't go down well with the rock musician. She appreciates the symbolism of “Cowboy Carter,” which consists of “black women going into spaces that previously only white women had access to.” But she doesn't particularly like it. Love emphasized: “I just don't like their music.”

She said of Lana Del Rey: “I haven't liked Lana since she covered a John Denver song and I think she should really take seven years off.” However, she used to think the singer was “great”. “When I recorded my new album, I had to stop listening to her because she influenced me too much,” Courtney Love praises at least one of her colleagues.

“It's great that there are so many successful women in the music industry,” she adds, because it's still a male-dominated business. Nevertheless, she directs her criticism exclusively at female artists and summarizes: “Many of them are becoming clichés. Nowadays, every successful woman is cloned, so there is just too much music. They are all the same. If you play something on Spotify, you will be included bombarded with a lot of things that are exactly the same thing.”
