Nissan has refreshed its successful Qashqai crossover. The measures go far beyond a usual facelift. For example, the Google operating system was installed at Nissan for the first time. And in several places there are “commas” modeled on ancient Japanese tank scales.

The current Qashqai has been around for around three and a half years. In the usual car life cycle, the successful model, which had sold a good 350,000 times to date, was ready for fresh cells. The car manufacturers didn't stop at cosmetic fine-tuning. They gave the Qashqai a new, fresh face and at the same time brought the infotainment, assistance systems and other electronic helpers up to date.

Visually, the revision can be seen most clearly on the radiator grille. It now consists of dozens of three-dimensional comma-shaped elements painted in high-gloss black paint and modeled on ancient Japanese tank scales. Sounds a bit martial, but it's certainly exciting to watch. Especially in the new N-Design version, in which the triangles under the newly designed headlights are embellished with hot foil stamping in satin chrome.

The red elements of the rear lights consist of four individual elements that take up the shape of the front grill “commas”. The red elements of the rear lights consist of four individual elements that take up the shape of the front grill “commas”.

The comma design continues on the lower daytime running lights. The upper one is also a turn signal and, depending on the model, is equipped with sequential cornering lights. Commas can also be found in the transparent taillights in the form of four seemingly floating individual elements in a very strong “super red”.

There are also various new wheels up to 20 inches and three new colors (Pearl White, Pearl Black and Deep Ocean).

Atmosphere adaptable to mood

In the finer versions, the interior designers use Alcantara and new materials, for example for the center console, and the seat covers should feel more high-quality. And thanks to the ambient lighting from the N-Connecta and N-Design equipment lines onwards, the atmosphere in the Qashqai can be adapted to the passengers' mood.

The redesigned Around View Monitor now has a 3D function that offers views of the car from eight camera perspectives, from the front, rear, sides and corners. In addition, the “invisible hood” allows you to take a virtual look directly under the Qashqai from the steering wheel, for example to avoid damaging the rims when parking on the curb. And a 200-degree wide-angle view makes it possible to safely navigate even confusing exits or intersections.

According to Nissan, pretty much all safety aids have been improved. So that they don't constantly ring and warn against the will of the occupants, Nissan has installed the Driver Assist Custom Mode for the first time. After starting, two clicks on the menu button are enough to activate the previously programmed, personally desired level of monitoring.

An important step is the integration of the entire Google operating system in the form of navigation, voice control and access to the relevant apps. The windows can be closed and the car locked using a smartphone. The owners are also warned if the car has been hit or towed.

And the drive? Nissan apparently saw no need for action in this area; the Qashqai will continue to be offered with the 190 hp e-Power combination with a gasoline engine as the energy generator and an electric motor as the driver, as well as with a mild hybrid with 140 and 158 hp . The new Qashqai will start rolling out to dealers in June 2024. Nissan has not yet commented on the prices; the crossover star currently starts at just under 29,500 euros.
