Heidelinde Weis is dead. The Austrian actress died on Friday at the age of 83. The Austrian “Kronen Zeitung” and the ORF initially reported. Weis became known through her numerous television roles, especially on German television.
Weis was already on the theater stage at a young age. The actress, who was born in Villach in the southern state of Carinthia, completed her acting training at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna. In the Austrian capital she then played at the Theater in der Josefstadt and made her film debut in 1959. In addition to acting, Weis also devoted himself to music, recorded three long-playing records and was awarded the German Record Prize in 1976.
Lived in Germany for decades
From the end of the 1960s she focused her work on television roles and was seen in Germany, among other things, in the first seven episodes of the “Schwarzwaldklinik”. She also appeared in series such as “Der Alte” or several times in the “Utta Danella”, “Rosamunde Pilcher” or “Das Traumschiff” film series. She largely limited herself to guest roles; she didn’t want to become a series star. After working and working in Germany for decades, she returned to her hometown. In 2016 it was announced that Weis was suffering from bladder cancer. Her autobiography “The best is yet to come” was published in 2022.
The Governor of Carinthia, Peter Kaiser, and his deputy Gaby Schaunig expressed their condolences for Weis’ relatives in a statement. “Heidelinde Weis was incredibly versatile as an actress, director and singer. But above all, she was also very warm and inspiring as a person,” Kaiser said in a statement. Weis was an outstanding artist and a very special person, added Schaunig. In 1982 Weis was awarded the “Great Golden Medal of Honor of the State of Carinthia” and in 2000 the City of Villach’s Culture Prize. She was already honored with a Golden Camera in 1977.
