Opel Crossland – mini SUV with lots of space and small weaknesses
This audio version was artificially generated. More info | Send feedback
The Opel Crossland, with the addition of X until the 2021 facelift, is a mini SUV that offers good space with very little floor space. But also one or two surprises at the TÜV. That's why it's better to make sure you have a fresh sticker when buying.
The Opel Crossland has been available since mid-2017, initially with a large X in the model name. This was eliminated with the 2021 facelift. The crossover shares the platform with the Peugeot 2008 and the Citroen C3 Aircross.
Quality
During the TÜV general inspections (HU), the Crossland X shows good and less good sides. The TÜV inspectors criticized the axle springs, the brake discs and oil loss. Those interested in used cars should take a closer look here. The axle suspension, steering, lighting and the exhaust system are quite inconspicuous.
Body and interior
Visually, the 4.21 meter long Crossland X can be recognized at first glance as a member of the Opel family: the classic creases are in place. The plastic planks around the wheel arches and a hint of underrun protection at the front and rear of the off-road vehicle look good, but they are only a nice appearance: the crossover is only available with front-wheel drive.
The Opel style also predominates inside. The steering wheel, cockpit and gearshift gate are familiar from many models with the flash. The facelift models can be recognized not only by the missing X in the model name, but also by the modified front design with the Vizor face.
The Crossland offers good space thanks to its wheelbase of 2.60 meters. The three-part rear seat, which can be moved up to 15 centimeters, is practical, although it is not standard on all equipment versions. Depending on its position, the luggage item holds between 410 and 520 liters, with a maximum of 1255 liters.
Engines and drive
The options available were and are a 1.2-liter three-cylinder naturally aspirated engine with 60 kW/83 hp (until mid-2022) and the 1.2-liter with turbo support, which is available in addition to a 96 kW/130 hp version also with 81 kW/110 hp. Also on offer was initially a 1.6-liter diesel with 73 kW/99 hp and 88 kW/122 hp; since 2018, a 1.5-liter diesel engine has taken over in the expansion stages 81 kW/110 hp and 122 hp (up to… mid-2020).
The standard consumption of gasoline engines is between 4.7 and 5.2 liters, diesel engines use an average of between 3.5 and 5.5 liters of diesel. As an alternative to gasoline and diesel, a liquid gas variant in combination with the 1.2-liter naturally aspirated engine was also available between the end of 2017 and mid-2018. Depending on the engine, power is transmitted by manual five- or six-speed switches or a six-speed automatic.
Equipment and security
The Crossland If you want it to be more visually attractive, for example with roof rails, aluminum or two-tone paint, or more comfortable with automatic air conditioning, back-friendly AGR seats or modern infotainment systems, the other equipment versions can help. “Edition”; “Innovation”, “Ultimate” and, since 2021, “GS-Line” offer all sorts of amenities such as a head-up display, navigation system and a 180-degree panoramic reversing camera ex works or in add-on packages.
Conclusion
The handy Opel Crossland X scores with decent space and a variable trunk. Anyone interested in a used car should make sure that the HU sticker is fresh. According to mobile.de's evaluation, around 5,000 used Crossland models are currently offered for sale on this platform. It starts at around 7000 euros.
