Opel Crossland X at the TÜV – sometimes like that, sometimes like that

The Opel Crossland X, the mini SUV below the Mokka, is the first Opel PSA model. The defect statistics cause those interested in used cars to ponder. And an Opel-typical problem remains.

The Crossland X may delight smaller families thanks to its variable interior space and comparatively low running costs. The overall calculation should also include the fact that the Opel mini-SUV is not a long-distance vehicle and the results of the general vehicle inspection (HU) are not the best. What does that mean exactly?

Model history

The Crossland The market launch was in mid-2017.

The PSA Group merged with Fiat-Chrysler to form Stellantis in 2021; In the same year, the Opel, which since then has only been called Crossland (without the “x”), received a facelift. The front line was redesigned and the chassis was optimized. Other points included a new traction control.

Body and variants

The Crossland X is a cross between an SUV and a minivan; the seating position is elevated, the interior is spacious and variable thanks to the sliding rear seat. The model has five doors and five seats.

Dimensions (according to ADAC)

  • 4.20 to 4.23 meters x 1.77 meters x 1.61 meters (L x W x H)
  • Trunk volume: 410 to 1,255 liters

Strengthen

The Crossland ranks below the Mokka, but its interior is relatively large. On the HU, the steering system is inconspicuous and there is no rust on the chassis. According to the “Auto Bild TÜV Report 2024,” taillights and indicators perform reliably, while other lighting components remain average.

Brake hoses and lines as well as the function of the brakes are “less critical”.

Weaken

The costs for repairs can escalate. According to the report, the reason is springs and dampers, which have above-average complaint rates as HU numbers one and two. The brake discs are also a problem early on: high levels of wear.

In addition, like its predecessor Meriva, the Crossland suffers from the “Opel-typical oil loss”, which weakens somewhat towards the second HU. The exhaust comes off mixed: “Well, let’s see.”

Breakdown behavior

In the ADAC breakdown statistics, models first registered between 2017 and 2019 occupy good places, while younger ones slip down to only “medium reliability”. The club cites a lack of oil pressure in cars from 2017 as the main points of breakdown; Ailing spark plugs on Opels from 2020 and 2021 also cause a significant number of breakdowns.
