Peter Zwegat is dead. The financial expert who became known through the RTL format “Get Out of Debt” dies at the age of 74. The Cologne broadcaster remembers his “commitment and his warmth of heart”.
Between 2007 and 2019, Peter Zwegat worked as a debt advisor and expert on financial issues in the format “Get Out of Debt” in almost 140 episodes and several TV specials for RTL. Now the Cologne broadcaster confirms Zwegat's death. He died “suddenly and unexpectedly” on August 9th at the age of 74. According to RTL, the funeral took place in the closest circle.
“With his extraordinary commitment and warmth, Peter Zwegat has helped numerous people get their lives back under control. His ability to explain complex financial problems in an understandable way and offer solutions was impressive. He will be remembered by us as a unique expert and a person who who was always compassionate and understanding,” writes Markus Küttner, head of entertainment at RTL. “Our thoughts are with Peter Zwegat's wife and his friends.”
“Unparalleled expertise”
In “Get Out of Debt,” Zwegat brought his “extensive knowledge and incomparable expertise into the living rooms of numerous viewers,” said Küttner. During his time at RTL he gained great popularity. Through his “empathetic approach”, the debt counselor managed to encourage people in debt and show them the way out of financial crises: “His successes in the TV landscape were undeniable and his work was appreciated by many.”
In memory of Peter Zwegat, RTL is changing its program: Selected episodes of “Get Out of Debt” will be broadcast again on RTLUp at 8:15 p.m. and on Saturday from 1:05 p.m.
