One of the oldest beach chair companies in Germany will cease operations at the end of March. The manufactory had previously become known worldwide for a very special beach chair.
The well-known beach chair manufacturer “Korbwerk” from Heringsdorf (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania) will cease business at the end of the month. “Bild” reports on this. The company gained popularity in 2007 when it built an oversized beach chair for heads of state and government at the G-8 summit in Heiligendamm.
The images from the summit were distributed worldwide at the time. In addition to the then Chancellor Angela Merkel, the then US President George W. Bush, the then and current Russian President Vladimir Putin and the then British Prime Minister Tony Blair were also present.
The “Korbwerk” now has to close due to its insolvency. Insolvency proceedings were opened as early as September 2023; Since then, no investor has been found who could have put the company back on the right track. A total of 18 employees are affected. According to “Bild”, the factory was one of the oldest of its kind in Germany – it started producing beach chairs as early as 1925.
