If everything goes as planned, Crown Princess Victoria will one day be Queen of Sweden. But before that, at the age of 47, she will undergo further military training. This could also have something to do with global political developments.
Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden is studying for the military. The heir to the throne wrote on Instagram about a photo of her in camouflage clothing: “It is with great anticipation that I continue my military training at the Swedish Defense Academy today. Together with the other cadets, I will delve deeper into tactics, war science and military strategy in the future.”
The daughter of King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden also lets her 665,000 followers know: “My goal now is to put all my energy into officer training so that I can represent Sweden and the armed forces in the best possible way in the future. I am looking forward to an interesting and enriching time of learning together with my new fellow students.”
Lots of lessons and exams
In the Instagram stories of the future Queen of Sweden, two more photos can be seen, showing her surrounded by many young cadets in a lecture hall during officer training. The Swedish Försvarshögskolan (Defence College) is a state military education college based in Stockholm, near the Royal Institute of Technology.
Victoria had already completed her basic military training in 2003. Now she will receive “special officer training,” royal spokeswoman Margareta Thorgren told the magazine “Svensk Damtidning.” “She is attending training together with several hundred other people. There will be a lot of classroom teaching and regular exams,” she continued.
Because of her training, Victoria will initially have fewer official appointments for the royal family in the coming weeks and months. She plans to complete the first part of her training in February. As queen, the 47-year-old will one day be the highest-ranking officer in the armed forces. The global political situation may also have contributed to her decision to pursue further military qualifications. Sweden joined NATO in March 2024 after Russia's attack on Ukraine.
