Bad news for skiers in the Sauerland: The Hunaulift in Bödefeld is insolvent. The next few days and weeks are likely to decide the future of the ski area.
The operating company of the Hunaulift in the Schmallenberg-Bödefeld ski area has filed for bankruptcy. This is reported by WDR. According to the report, a key reason for the bankruptcy is last year's mild winter.
What will happen next with the longest ski run in Sauerland is currently unclear. The shareholders of the GmbH are holding talks with the banks in the hope of being able to put the lifts on the Hunau back into operation at least next winter, it is said.
We are also currently examining whether a summer operation could achieve higher sales in the future. Possible options would be to build another bike arena or additional offers for hikers.
The Bödefeld ski area offers the longest floodlit downhill slope in the Sauerland at an altitude of 810 meters. With its three lifts, the area can transport up to 3,000 people per hour.
Thanks to snow cannons and snow lances, skiing has continued to be possible in recent winters. However, rising energy costs and changing weather conditions represent a growing challenge – a problem that other lift operators are also facing. The Winterberg-Züschen ski area recently filed for bankruptcy.
