The selection of electric scooters is constantly growing. They are more powerful and faster than a Pedelec, but smaller than a real motorcycle. In between they find their niche and their buyer – here are ten new models for the new year.
Electric scooters are small, light, handy and therefore ideal for driving through the city. They are also cheaper to buy and maintain than cars, but travel faster and often further than electric bicycles. 2024 brings new, interesting models. A selection:
BMW CE 02
With the CE 02, BMW is offering an electric scooter for beginners for the first time. The futuristically designed two-seater with a throttled 3.3 kW/4 HP can be driven by anyone aged 15 or over. Alternatively, the scooter has an output of 11 kW/15 hp and can travel up to 90 kilometers on a single battery charge. Price: 7500 euros or 8500 euros.
Govec's E-Schwalbe
In the dress of the historic Schwalbe, Govecs is introducing a new, technically revised version of the E-Schwalbe. The battery can now be removed and charged externally. The E-Schwalbe has a range of up to 100 kilometers on one charge.
With the version for the L1e vehicle class with 2.3 kW/3 HP, even 15-year-olds can drive up to 45 km/h. A more powerful L3e variant is to follow. Price: from around 8100 euros.
Honda EM1 e
Honda will bring its first electric scooter onto the German market in 2024. The EM1 e is powered by a hub motor with 1.7 kW/2.3 HP and accelerates the two-seater up to 45 km/h. The battery, which weighs around ten kilograms, can be removed and charged externally. The 1.5 kWh is enough for around 40 kilometers of electric travel. However, the EM1 is not available to buy for the time being: Honda only offers the scooter as a rental or leasing vehicle.
Husqvarna Vectorr
From 2024, off-road specialist Husqvarna will offer the Vectorr, a light city scooter with a top speed of 45 km/h. A technical feature is the one-armed guides on the front and rear wheels; the motor is firmly connected to the frame. The range is 95 kilometers. Price: n/a
Italjet Dragster #e01 Electric
Scooter manufacturer Italjet is planning its first e-scooter for 2024 alongside its combustion engine models. The Dragster #e01 Electric is powered by an electric motor with 6 kW/8 HP continuous power and 12 kW/16 HP peak power. The 4.9 kWh battery should provide a range of up to 180 kilometers, and the top speed is 130 km/h. Price: n/a
Naon Lucy
The Lucy is a further developed scooter from the stylish Zero-One with a floating seat and transparent windshield. Thanks to the interchangeable system, the battery can also be charged in the apartment. The L1e version from the Berlin company can be ordered from 2024, but will not come onto the market until 2025. Price: around 6500 euros. A more powerful L3e version travels at speeds of up to 100 km/h and costs 8,500 euros.
Niu Razer SQi
Niu won a design award in 2023 for the Razer SQi light scooter – it has a so-called unibody, no-frills and no weld seams. In the 45 km/h version, the Niu travels up to 95 kilometers. Available from the second quarter of 2024. Price: k. A
Silence S01/S02
The S01 e-scooter was previously called Seat Mo in Germany. For 2024, the name will change to Silence S01, plus the S02 in the L1e version with a top speed of 45 km/h. Price: 5150 euros. In the L3e version, the Silence S02 travels up to 90 km/h and can travel up to 133 kilometers on a single battery charge. Price: 5400 euros. The larger scooters are called S01 and S01+, the Plus travels at speeds of up to 100 km/h.
Style ride 1
The Stilride brand comes from Sweden. The Stilride 1 has 8 kW/11 HP and travels at speeds of up to 100 km/h. The 5.1 kWh battery lasts for up to 120 kilometers. The minimalist design and stylish stainless steel frame stand out from the crowd, as does the price of 15,000 euros.
Yamaha E01
Yamaha wants to score points on the German market with the E01 electric scooter. The scooter with 8 kW/11 HP travels at speeds of up to 100 km/h and travels around 100 kilometers on a single battery charge. Yamaha has not yet announced a price.
Electric or with a combustion engine: which driving license is required
According to the ADAC, for scooters with a displacement of up to 50 cubic centimeters (ccm) or e-scooters (L1e-B) with 4 kW/5.4 HP output and a maximum speed of 45 km/h, an AM driving license (from 15 years old) or a car driving license is sufficient Class B/Class 3.
For scooters with a 125 cc engine or e-scooters with an output of up to 11 kW/15 HP, an A1 license is required, which young people can obtain at the age of 16. Anyone who only has a car driving license needs the supplement B196 in order to be able to move the light-power scooter.
Motorcycle license holders are of course also allowed to drive the scooters. For vehicle classes with power limitations, the rated continuous power is always the officially relevant power, not the maximum power.
