Musician Grimes, whose real name is Claire Boucher, has apologized to her fans after her disastrous performance on the first weekend of Coachella. Halfway through her performance at the popular festival in the California desert, tech billionaire Elon Musk's on-off girlfriend struggled with significant technical difficulties. “All my tracks have a double tempo,” explained the desperate artist on stage. Then – figuratively speaking – her fuses blew. Grimes screamed into her microphone and raged behind the mixer.
The 36-year-old later explained in more detail what led to the chaotic appearance in a long post on X. Her statement said: “I would like to apologize for the technical issues with tonight's show. I was keen to get back and I normally take care of every aspect of my show myself.” But this time she wanted to save time and therefore “let others organize the tracks on the SD card”. That's why she had “a bad feeling beforehand” because she hadn't looked through the CDs herself. “The CDs were showing me BPMs of around 370, so I couldn't even manually mix by ear, and the front monitors were turned off, so it was literally sonic chaos on my end.” She was also unaware of her screaming and “squealing” into the microphone.

However, she gained important insights from this extremely negative experience, which she explains in her X post. This includes: “If you want it done right, do it yourself.” In addition, it is important to insist on things, “even if it might make people feel bad.” As a final point, she mentioned that in the future it would probably be better to “pretend everything is fine” and involve the audience “instead of spending an entire show slumped over the desk fixing software when you're actually entertaining “should”.
The singer, who has three children from her on-off relationship with Tesla founder Elon Musk, promised to organize “all the files personally” for the upcoming weekend performance. “I won't let something like this happen again. I've spent months making music and visuals for this show and I'm admittedly not in the best mood. But yeah – next week will be flawless, everything will be through my Hands run.” She ends her statement with the words: “Please forgive me!”

Grimes wasn't the only artist to experience mishaps at this year's Coachella kickoff, however. Her colleague Nelly Furtado performed with Australian producer Dom Dolla on Saturday evening – and fell. She posted the painful scene in a story on Instagram and commented on it in writing: “Kiss your husband… not the stage!”
In another video, she showed a bleeding thumb into the camera. “I literally left everything on stage…including my blood,” she wrote.
