Rewe wants to close his large bakery – and outsource production. The affected works council becomes clear.
The Rewe Group's closure plans for the Großenbrot-Bäckerei in Frankfurt-Fechenheim meet resistance to the workforce. Together with the NGG union, the works council wants to receive the location and around 500 jobs. A works meeting was convened for this Friday, which is to be continued in the afternoon in front of the factory gates.
A few days ago, the Rewe Group presented its plans to hand over its own bread production to Hamburger Harry-Brot GmbH. While the bell bread location in Bergkirchen is to be adopted with all employees, the work in Frankfurt-Fechenheim is in the room for three to five years. Instead, Harry plans a new large bakery on a Rewe property in the nearby Erlensee near Hanau.
According to his own announcement, Rewe wants to advise the works council about a change of company, including compensation for interests and social plan, in order to find socially acceptable solutions for the employees. The closure is not accepted, but explains the Frankfurt works council chairwoman Georgios Tsobanakis. “Our colleagues are angry and deeply disappointed, but we don't let ourselves be put down. The workforce is together in solidarity!”
The NGG state chairman Uwe Hildebrandt describes the Rewe decision as a scandal. “A successful company is willfully smashed, regardless of the people who have built up this company with hard work and decades.
The bell bread bakery was founded in 1904, since 1986 it has been part of the Rewe group, the location in Bavaria since 2010. The bakeries have so far been produced exclusively for Rewe and Penny.
